The Art of Paper Making

Event details

Paper has been made for millennia. The Ancient Egyptians and Chinese artisans perfected the art. Techniques spread and evolved over time, crossing cultures and peoples. Paper you are familiar with is the product of a lifetime process of art and care. This course will introduce you to the vocabulary, tools, and techniques of beginner friendly paper-making you can accomplish at home. You’ll learn how to make paper pulp and turn it to paper with lots of different ways to embellish your paper creation. This class will give you the basics to start exploring on your own!

Starter supplies (frame, mesh, paper pulp) are included in the class cost. We do ask that all students bring a clean sponge, feel free to bring paper or tissue paper scraps if you have a specific paper request.

If you want to continue this work at home consider purchasing or collecting the follow supplies: A blender or immersion blender (we don’t recommend using it for food after paper-making!), large bowl, scraps of non-coated paper (notebook paper, used printer paper, colored tissue paper, rag paper, rice paper), two wooden picture frames to be used for a mold, mesh similar to patio screen, staple gun, vessel for holding water, storage bin and drying rack.

Please note: this class is hosted onsite in our classroom. If you are joining us for onsite programming, we ask that you adhere to signage and procedures posted on our campus. Face masks are required at all times and you are advised to keep 6 feet (2 meters) between you and others. Class size is limited to 10 students and 1 instructor so register today to ensure your spot to create with us!
