AIRIE is inviting artists and creators alike to join the cast of almost 200 past and current AIRIE Fellows that have come to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Florida Everglades National Park. They will participate in an inspiring 4-week stay with opportunities to connect, share, research, and incubate ideas for their work. We also invite them to foster connection between other AIRIE Fellows and members of the arts communities in and around Miami with live performances and talks, tons of art galleries and happenings, and various gatherings with AIRIE board members and staff. Each Fellow is offered a $4000 research grant, institutional support from AIRIE’s network and partners, and accommodations in the Everglades National Park with additional financial support for travel and food.

In return the artists share their work and experience in the Everglades through public conversations, digital platforms, writing, and/or public viewing of artwork created during or resulting from their residency. The artists are also asked to prepare a presentation on their year-long research that will be delivered at the annual AIRIE Environment + Art Summit in December during Miami Art Week of each year. The Annual Environment + Art Summit in December 2023 will feature discussions, workshops, and a keynote address centered around the 2023 season theme: How can we make the outdoors a space of belonging?

Project Description

The Milk District Main Street seeks an artist or artist team(s) to submit qualifications for a dedicated site located near Anderson Street and Primrose Drive to provide an artistically rich installation that will capture the character and culture of our community, and visually enhance the public space while greeting people as they enter the District. Due to the project scope, submission of existing pieces is encouraged.

Site

The site is located at the southwest corner of Anderson Street and Primrose drive. As part of the Downtown Connector Trail, a new pocket park is being created on an easement provided by Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX). The site plan includes two locations for sculpture. Artist(s) are asked to submit a proposal that unifies both locations with a single piece of art or a proposal for two separate pieces that form a cohesive experience. Please note, there is no provision for dedicated lighting or electricity at the installation site, and proposals that require such will not be considered.

The park will serve the adjacent residential neighborhood and business district and provide a waypoint along the trail for users to stop and enjoy. (See the map of the Site Plan.)

The City of Orlando is funding the public art installation that will be integrated into the project landscape to enhance the site, creating a more scenic and cultural experience for bicyclists, pedestrians, trail users, and motorists.

The Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, FL, invites emerging artists currently residing in Florida to submit entries for possible exhibition in the seventh annual Fresh Squeezed: Emerging Artists in Florida. The exhibition will be held at the Morean Arts Center April 8 – June 22, 2023. The purpose of this exhibition is to nurture and advance the careers of emerging visual artists while also giving our community the opportunity to discover exciting new art being made in our region.

The Morean Galleries will be divided into six spaces for the purposes of this show, giving each selected artist what will essentially be a solo exhibition. Works in any medium will be accepted, and community-oriented, site-specific installations are encouraged (see gallery floor plan). Each artist will have the opportunity to participate in artist panels and gallery talks during the run of the exhibition, to enable them to interact with potential collectors and raise their visibility in our community. Morean staff will work closely with the selected artists to assist them in photographing, pricing and marketing their work. Our Fresh Squeezed program aims to provide emerging artists with resources needed to develop a sustainable artistic practice.

Eligibility: The exhibition and competition is open to all emerging artists (age 18 or older) who are current residents of Florida, without restriction to medium. The Morean is defining an emerging artist as one who has never had a solo show in the state of Florida. A solo show constitutes an exhibition in a gallery, arts center, or museum of at least three weeks in length and with an opening reception. One exception: solo BFA or MFA shows at a college or university are acceptable. All work must be original, completed within the last two years, and not previously exhibited at the Morean. The Morean’s curatorial staff has the final authority for selection.

Entries for this exhibition are due November 21, 2022
