THIS EVENT IS FULL AND REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

This activity is inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.’s powerful words to love our brothers and sisters and by the aesthetics of the 1960’s Chicago-based AfriCOBRA art collective celebrating Black identity and culture. Martin Luther King Jr. encouraged us to dream and to work for a world with justice and equality. Let’s honor Martin Luther King Jr. all year round by remembering his words and implementing them in our lives.

Participants of all ages are invited to create one bag per person. Each person will receive a black tote bag and will decorate their bags by cutting and gluing fabrics and placing them on their bags like a quilt. Participants will be encouraged to make a commitment to research and learn about a contemporary Black artist, photographer, musician, or someone in their community who is working for positive change.

This workshop will be held in the Alliance for the Arts building. We ask that everyone adheres to signage by wearing a mask and social distancing while in the public areas of the building.
