Menu Musical Theatre Intensive Camp at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre for Ages 7-10 and 11-15
The Broadway Palm/Alliance for the Arts Musical Theatre Intensive Camp is back this year and better than ever! Focusing on high quality training for students of all ages – campers will get a peek into the life and training of professional musical theatre actors right on the Broadway Palm Stage. Geared towards students looking to expand their training in singing, dancing and acting – this year we have weeks designated for various age ranges so everyone gets a chance to join in the fun! Campers will have the unique opportunity to work with professional actors from Broadway Palm’s current production of Mary Poppins. Each week will culminate in performance on a Broadway Palm stage where every student gets a chance to shine.
ABOUT THE SESSIONS
Mary Poppins Advanced – (July 8th – 12th) Ages 11 – 15
Things will be practically perfect in every way as campers learn choreography and scene work featuring that famous Nanny – Mary Poppins. Led by Broadway Palm performers coaching students in vocal technique, acting and musical theatre dance. Speciality courses in dance partnering, improv, and scene study will be offered as well as the opportunity to watch the main stage production of Mary Poppins complete with an actor talk back. The entire week will cumulate in a performance of songs and scenes on the Broadway Palm Stage with professional sets and lighting.
Mary Poppins Junior (July 15th – 19th) Ages 7 – 10
It’s time to take a “Holly Jolly Holiday” with this camp geared towards younger performers. Focusing on the basics of dance technique, music theory and acting – this camp is the perfect introduction to formal musical theatre training for those students bitten by the theatre bug. Student actors will portray characters from the classic story in a cold reading workshops coached by Broadway Palm’s professional actors. Camp includes attending a performance of Mary Poppins complete with a talk back with cast members. We will wrap it up with a final performance on the Broadway Palm stage that is sure to be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Christmas in July featuring ELF the musical (July 22nd – 26th) Ages 7 – 10
There is no better way to celebrate Christmas in July than by hanging out with Buddy the Elf! c Using material from Broadway Palm’s hit production – we will be sparkle jolly all over the stage! With special courses in tap dance, stage make up, improv and more – students are sure to pick up new skills this week as they explore Buddy’s journey to New York City. Work on creating iconic characters with Broadway Palm actors and present scenes and songs from the show as a final presentation. Camp includes an opportunity to watch Mary Poppins live on the Broadway Palm stage with a backstage tour and actor talk back.
Season Pass – 50’s and 60’s (July 29th – August 2nd) Ages 11 – 15
Our most advanced week, this camp is designed for students who are looking to pursue a career in the performing arts. Actors will be pushed to perform at the peak of their abilities with advanced part singing, partner dancing, and a variety of scene work based on Broadway Palm’s 2023/2024 season featuring themes and music from the 1950’s and 1960’s, Using material from Hairspray, Elvis and Beautiful students will dive into advanced scene studythe history of musical theatre and become familiar with each show – learning historical context and how to audition for varying genres. Students will also attend a performance of Mary Poppins followed by a question and answer session with the cast. Professional actors from Broadway Palm will work with students one on one on audition technique, musical theatre history, music theory, vocal technique and a variety of dance forms including special choreography sessions learning original choreography from A Chorus Line. The final performance on the Broadway Palm stage will feature each student in a role from our previous season.
