Event details

Stereotypes, oversimplified assumptions leading to prejudice, affect everyone. They can be based on race, nationality, gender, ability, and sexual orientation. The use of stereotypes to make sweeping generalizations leads to a loss of individuality by grouping together everyone who shares a certain trait or characteristic.

Running alongside Theater Conspiracy’s production of The Colored Museum, this exhibition encourages our members to examine the ways stereotypes have negatively affected their lives and find ways to celebrate their culture and identity through art. Together, we can challenge the labels and limitations placed on us by others and reclaim our identities and individuality. Art for this exhibition should be evocative and allow the viewers to see each piece through the unique eyes of the artist. We invite artists to submit art that confronts and undermines stereotypes they have faced and reframe the narrative to celebrate the things that make us each unique.
