Event details

The Alliance for the Arts GreenMarket is resuming its urban farming workshops this Saturday, Sept 26 at 10:30 a.m.

Growers Santiago De Choch and Millisa Bell will offer the most basic and comprehensive crash course on the basic vegetable garden possible to condensate in an hour or so. Topics covered will be soil preparation, water and sunlight requirements, seed varieties, best fruits and vegetables, organic pest control, harvesting and re-planting. All topics will be specific to our area, which starts its main growing season in September/October and continue through the fall, winter and into the spring. This will be a good refresher if you’re a local, and necessary learning if you’re a visitor!

This hourlong presentation will be followed by a Q&A. All workshops are free, but small donations are accepted to help the Alliance for the Arts continue programs and activities that benefit the community.

The GreenMarket has been a hub for local backyard veggie gardeners and organic farmers for over 10 years. It acts as a space where knowledge is shared freely, with the goal of making Fort Myers and southwest Florida more sustainable: more growers big and small, better food, introduction of biodiversity and resilience in our gardens and fields.

The workshop will be conducted rain or shine. The Alliance campus offers acres of open space, so appropriate social distancing will be maintained.
