Painting Nocturnes

Nocturne painting typically implies painting outside at night, oh no!! In this workshop you will paint beautiful nighttime scenes in the comfort and safety of the Alliance classroom with amazing results.  Learn the various techniques that capture the essence of darkness and illumination of natural and artificial light. Instruction using both acrylic and watercolor mediums will be given.  Oil painters are also welcome!

Supply List

• Brushes – a variety of small and large rounds and flats
• Canvas or heavy watercolor paper (support recommended for paper) – Bring extra for practice
• Paints
  • Black or Sepia
  • Indigo
  • Phthalo (Thalo) or ultramarine blue or violet
  • Cobalt Blue (optional)
  • Viridian Green
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Brown Madder
  • White

•  Misc: Pencil and kneaded eraser if sketching with pencil; Container for water; Paper Towels; old toothbrush
