Fridays with Francesco: Color Studies (Ages 18+)

In this class with Francesco, the students will focus on color studies. Color study allows the artist to unleash his/her own creativity rather than focusing solely on achieving a realistic result, the goal is to explore different color combinations or arrangements.
In the morning we will do multiple version of the same old master painting but using different color combinations in each version. This allows the artist to directly compare how the various color choices change the mood or feel of the painting. In the afternoon, students will have the possibility to choose the subject for the color studies including an old painting that needs re-work or a new painting that are planning to start, so you can bring your own reference or use one of Francesco’s many prints. To emphasize how important color studies are, for his 20 master thesis’s large nudes, Francesco did a minimum of 9 color studies for each painting. “Changing mind on the color scheme on a 4’x8’ painting mid way is expensive and time consuming…”

There will be a 1/2 hr lunch break

Supply list:
* Palette to mix colors
* 5-7 Canvas boards: 9×12” or 2-3 12”x16”
* 3 interlocking Hog Bristle Round brushes – size 1, 2 & 3 Whatever other brushes you have (lbert, at, fan)

*Paper towel roll
* Oil Colors any brand and Odorless mineral spirits and a sealed container
