Beginning is the hardest part of making

We hold ourselves accountable to expectations based on what we want to create and it often stops us from creating altogether. In this course, you can learn how to approach the empty canvas with no clear intent and work non-representational, rotating the canvas around and paying attention to composition alone until the masses form something to bring out of the non-objective and into the representational realm. This way of painting places an emphasis on composition alone by allowing you to pay direct attention to value, shape, form, line, depth, balance, etc. This course will teach you to prioritize the principles of art until a narrative emerges organically through the process.

This class will meet twice a week for 2 weeks: 7/7 and 7/10, 7/14 and 7/17

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Paints:
Quinacridone Magenta
Cadmium Red
Cadmium Yellow Medium
Cadmium Yellow Light
Phthalo Blue
Ultramarine Blue
Ivory Black
Titanium White
If you don’t currently own paints, buy the colors mentioned above from whichever brand you desire. Don’t feel pressured to buy expensive paints off the bat if you’re just starting out but
understand that cheaper paints usually have lower pigmentation and therefore age worse and appear differently than more pigmented paints. I personally recommend Liquitex, Winsor &
Newton, or Golden.

Brushes:
Filberts sizes 2, 4, 6, 8
Large Bristle Brush
Synthetic Detail Brush
Palette knife (optional)
Canvases:
