Alliance Members Discuss Just Kids by Patti Smith on Tuesday, February 18

Just KidsThe Alliance for the Arts’ monthly Member Gallery Book Club continues on Tuesday, February 18 from 7-9PM with a discussion of Just Kids by Patti Smith. Join Alliance members in this monthly exploration of literature centered on artists, art history and art appreciation.

In Smith’s first book of prose, the legendary American artist offers a never-before-seen glimpse of her remarkable relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe in the epochal days of New York City and the Chelsea Hotel in the late sixties and seventies. An honest and moving story of youth and friendship, Smith brings the same unique, lyrical quality to Just Kids as she has to the rest of her formidable body of work—from her influential 1975 album Horses to her visual art and poetry.

The Member Gallery Book Club meets from 7-9PM on the third Tuesday of every month. Club members must purchase their own copy of each book. Pre-registration is encouraged – all that’s needed is an active Alliance membership. The club continues on Tuesday, March 18 with a discussion of The Hare with Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance by Edmund de Waal. The April title is Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier.
