David Beale

David served in the Peace Corps in Colombia from 1968 to 1970, and then studied music composition at the graduate level at Cornell University.  His work for 12 tubas, “Reflections on a Park Bench,” was performed at Carnegie Hall in the 1970’s.  He owned a remodeling company, Southern Exposure, for around 25 years.  He began painting watercolors at the age of 50 when his wife enrolled him in an adult evening course at SUNY Cortland.  He served as Executive Director of the Cultural Council of Cortland County from 2004 through 2014.

David has owned The Picture House Gallery and Frame Shop at 85 Homer Ave in Cortland since 2001.  He teaches watercolor, both in classes and individually, with over 60 students.  He also organizes and teaches workshops including Sedona, AZ, and Ireland in 2015 and the Georgia Low Country, Shawnee on the Delaware, and Barcelona this year.  He has been included in many national and regional watercolor exhibits and is a signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society
