Join artist Marilyn Hedlund for an indoor/outdoor in-person plein air painting class where nature will be your guide. Each class will begin indoors, with the option of moving outdoors for painting. Learn to use landscapes or seascapes as the basis for a painting. Your paintings won’t be realistic but will still be identifiable, as opposed to typical abstract art where the subject matter is removed. Free up your expression and sense of confining boundaries by focusing on color combinations and painting from the heart. Students will participate in critique sessions, one-on-one instruction and group lessons in color and composition. Beginners are welcome and will be in a class with mixed skill levels.
In addition to the following recommended supplies, we encourage students to bring in 1-2 works in progress for critique each week (including the first class).
Supply list: Portable easel, paper towels/rags, and jug of water and water container.
Recommended: Liquitex Fine Art Acrylic Heavy Body or Golden Acrylics
Pthalo Blue (green shade)
Cad yellow light
Assorted China bristle brushes including filbert #10 and #12
1” to 2” painter’s brushes
If you use papers you will need some kind of board or cardboard and clips
Roll of refrigerator/wax paper for palette
White masking tape
Various pens, pencils, charcoal, drawing tools
Optional: notebook for taking notes
Please note: this class is hosted outside. In case of inclement weather, the class will move to Studio 103 in the Edwards Building.
