DETAILS AT A GLANCE

  • Hours: 9:00 - 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday
  • Daily Arrival between 8:30 - 9:00 AM
  • Pre Care available from 8:00 - 8:30 AM ($10 per week per child)
  • After Care available from 4:00 - 5:00 PM ($10 per week per child)
  • Classes begin promptly at 9:00 AM
  • Weather cancellations:96.9 FM, 1240 AM, or WINK-TV 11
  • Campers must be entering first through entering sixth grade in the fall.
  • Bring a lunch. Light snacks are provided (no camper access to fridge or microwave)
  • Bring a paint shirt or smock.
  • Recommended footwear: tennis shoes
  • Gallery reception and performance for family and friends, every Friday at 2:30.

TUITION AND FEES

  • First week: $195/$150*
  • Each additional week: $190/$145*
  • Additional children in a family discounted $5 per week
  • $10 materials fee per week per child

* Alliance members always pay the lower price
* Alliance members may register for summer camp beginning Feb. 1, 2008. All others may register beginning March 1, 2008. Not a member? A family Membership is $75

Pre-registration is strongly recommended with minimum 50% deposit. Balance is due one week prior to each session. We accept cash, check, MasterCard, VISA, or American Express.

Camp fills quickly; please register early!

REFUND POLICY

  • A 50% deposit is required to pre-register. (membership fee must be paid in full to receive membership discount).
  • Balance is due one week prior to camp start date.
  • A credit card is required to hold weeks in which a balance is due. Cedit cards will be charged automatically one week prior to camp start date unless alternate payment has been made.
  • Two weeks notice is required for all cancellations to receive a full refund.
  • Cancellations made after this date are subject to forfeiture of deposit.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships to the Alliance for the Arts Summer Arts Camp will be judged on a financial basis. Proof of financial need is required. There are limited opportunities; decisions are on a first come basis. For more information, please call Amy Smith at 939-2787.

2008 WEEKLY THEMES

Week #1 June 16th - 20th
Art Avengers

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no it’s a super artist! This week campers will wield paint brush, palette, and dance shoes to learn about super heroes of all the arts and help defend the legacies of the masters.

Week #2 June 23rd - 27th
Treasure Island

Arrrgghh! Get your eye patch on and your parrot perched. This week we set sail on the high seas in search of adventure and buried treasure. X marks the spot for fun and creativity, so get on board or yee may be forced to walk the plank!

Week #3 June 30th - July 4th
Americana

Old Glory, apple pie, watermelon, and sparklers. Help us celebrate all things American and show our pride for the red, white, and blue.

Week #4 July 7th - 11th
Lights of Broadway

Don’t miss this summer camp tradition! Celebrate the neon lights, unforgettable tunes, and all the magic that is Broadway. This week includes a special backstage tour of the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre.

Week #5 July 14th - 18th --- SOLD OUT (waiting list available)
Jungle Safari

Swing through vines and trumpet like an elephant. This week we’ll explore the jungle and all who live and play there. A trip to see “Jungle Book” at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre is also included!

Week #6 July 21st - 25th
Under the Big Top

Set up the tents, pop the popcorn, and twirl the cotton candy. The circus is coming to the Alliance for the Arts! This week has everything to do with the greatest show on earth so... send in the clowns!

Week #7 July 28th - August 1st
Summer Games

Join us for a week filled with arts of Olympic proportions. We’ll celebrate the tradition, competitive spirit, and diversity that encompasses the Summer Games. Get ready to go for the gold!

DETAILS AT A GLANCE

Musical Theatre Camp will be held at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre located at 1380 Colonial Blvd. All registrations and questions should be directed to Alliance for the Arts at 939-2787 or email education@artinlee.org.

Campers must be entering 7th, 8th, or 9th grade in the fall of 2008

Hours are 9:00 - 4:00 Monday - Friday
Daily Arrival between 8:45 and 9:00 am

Cabaret stage performance each Friday at 4:00 pm for family and friends

Curriculum will include how to’s on:

  • auditioning
  • group and solo singing
  • scene study
  • basic music theory
  • behind-the-scenes work
  • various styles of dance
  • and much more!

Campers should bring/wear the following:

  • three ring binder
  • comfortable clothes you can move in
  • sneakers or dance shoes (no flip flops or sandals)
  • water bottle
  • a bag lunch for Monday and Tuesday

(hot lunch will be provided Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday)

First Week Tuition: $295/$250*
Each Additional Week: $290/$245*

2008 WEEKLY THEMES

Week #1 July 7th - 11th
New York, New York

Take a bite out of the big apple as we sing its praises with material from Guys and Dolls, On the Town, Annie, Wonderful Town, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. This week we’ll focus on choreography in the Fosse style - so grab a bowler hat and let’s tip our hats to NewYork!

Week #2 July 14th - 18th
Wild West

Cowboys and gun slinging gals will be featured onstage using songs and scenes from such shows as Oklahoma, Annie Get Your Gun, Will Rogers Follies, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Highlights will include a course in roping, and learning original western style choreography. Grab your boots and let’s yee haw y’all!

Week #3 July 21st - 25th
Come to the Circus

Ever want to be clown or lion tamer? Join us as we look at musicals inspired by circuses, carnivals and fairs such as Pippin, Godspell, Carnival, Side Show and Barnum. Learn juggling, clown make-up and everything else you need for the greatest show on earth!

Week #4 July 28th - August 1st
50’s Musicals

Do you dream of dancing on the Corny Collins show like Traci Turnblatt in Hairspray? This week take a trip back to the 50’s with numbers from the musicals Hairspray, Grease, Bye Bye Birdie, and All Shook Up. We’ll be learning the hand jive so get those poodle skirts and leather jackets ready.

**Each week also includes a live show at the Broadway Palm and a question and answer discussion with production staff after the performance**
